The 470-0041 is an IRP/URI bi-metal tube-mount defrost thermostat (often identified by part number 33435). It is designed to safely terminate the defrost cycle by opening the circuit when the evaporator coil reaches approximately \(\sim 20^{\circ} \text{F}\) and closing again at \(\sim 5^{\circ} \text{F}\).
How to Test and ReplaceSafety First: Unplug the refrigerator or disconnect the power before accessing the evaporator coils.Access the Coils: Remove the back panel inside the freezer to locate the thermostat clipped onto the evaporator tubes.Multimeter Test: While the thermostat is cold (below \(5^{\circ}\text{F}\)), test it for continuity with a multimeter. A functioning cold thermostat will show continuity (an audible beep). If it fails to show continuity when cold, or if it shows continuity at room temperature, it is defective and must be replaced.Replacement: Use wire strippers and butt connectors to splice in the new thermostat, or swap the wiring harness, depending on your appliance's specific design.
